How to connect the cuff to the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor?

When you received your OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor, the cuff and the OSTAR equipment are separated. In order to user the OSTAR equipment, you must connect the cuff and the OSTAR equipment.


To connect the cuff to the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor is easy. Just insert the hose connector of the cuff to the socket in the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor.


  • You will find the hose connector at the end of the hose connected to the cuff (No. 16 in the graphic below)


  • You will find the socket for the hose connector in the left hand side of the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor (No. 15 in the graphic below)

How can I turn the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor on?

On the top right side of the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor you can find a light green button with text "ON/OFF" below it. Press on the button the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor will be turned on and  start a "self-test-correction-calibration" procedure. When a figure "0" is displayed on the LCD screen, the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor is ready for making measurement.

Why the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor displays incorrect date and time after turned on?

The OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor relies on battery power to function. When the batteries are removed for the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor, the settings of date and time will be lost.


Every time when you put batteries in the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor (for the first time or for changing the batteries), the LCD screen of the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor will display the setting values of date and time, which is not the current date and time.


You must manually update the settings to the correct date and time. After that, the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor will display the correct date and time every time you turn it on.

Will my stored measurement data be lost when I change the batteries in the OSTAR blood pressure monitor?

No. Your measurement data are stored in the memory, which will not be disappeared/erased when the batteries are removed from the OSTAR blood pressure monitor.


You will be able to retrieve your stored measurement data once you put the batteries in the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor again.

How can I change the setting of the OSTAR HK-809 blood pressure monitor?

After switching on the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor, press and hold the setting button below the LCD screen (the middle button shown on the graphic below) until the text "YEAr" with a flashing number of the year is shown on the LCD display. You have entered the setting mode.


You can then adjust the value of year, month, day, hour and minute in sequence.

What is the warning range of systolic/diastolic blood pressure and pulse? Can I change the settings?

The warning value of systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and pulse is a special reminder function of the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor. The range, upper and lower limits, of systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and pulse can be set separately.


When you complete the measurement with the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor, the measured readings will be displayed on the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor. If your measured systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure or pulse value exceeds the set upper or lower limit, the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor will display the value exceeding the upper limit or lower limit in flashing to remind you.


The upper and lower limits of systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and pulse are preset by the manufacturer, and we do not recommend modifying them. If you want to change the set value, it is recommended to consult your doctor first.

How can I start a new measurement with the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor?

Below the "ON/OFF" button of the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor you will see a light orange round button with the text "START" below it. After you have switched on the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor, press on the "START" button. The OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor immediately starts a new measurement.


Please note that before pressing the "START" button you must ensure that you have worn the cuff on the left upper arm (or the right upper arm) according to the instructions in the user manual. If you experience any abnormality or physical discomfort while taking a measurement with the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor, you can press the "ON/OFF" button to terminate the measurement immediately and switch off the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor.

What should I do if I feel uncomfortable when the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor is conducting a measurement?

You should interrupt and terminate the measurement immediately.


To interrupt the measurement, please press on the light green "ON/OFF" button on the top right of the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor. As soon as the "ON/OFF" button is pressed, the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor defaltes the cuff immediately until the cuff is completely deflated. After that the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor is truned off as well.


In case of emergency, you should take off the cuff immediately after pressing on the "ON/OFF" button on the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor.

What should I pay attention to when use the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor to conduct a measurement?

It is recommended that you take the measurement at the same time each day or at the time your doctor recommends.


To avoid unnecessary increase of your blood pressure while making a measurement, it is recommended that:


  • wait about 30 minutes after eating, smoking, or exercising before taking a measurement.


  • relax and rest for at least 5 minutes before taking a measurement.


  • avoid drinking, eating (chewing), speaking, laughing or crossing your legs


    For example speaking during the measurement might increase your systolic blood pressure upto 17 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure upto 13 mmHg according to a study report.


It is recommended that you sit comfortably in a chair, better with the back support, and your feet should be flat on the floor.


Wear the cuff in your left (or right) upper arm, and keep the cuff at the same heigh level of your heart. Breat normally and lightly. Do not make any sudden movment while making a measurement.

When can I measure again after I finish a measurement with the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor?

There is no strict regulation for the interval of making two measurements as long as you do not feel any uncomfortable at every aspect.


However, it is recommended to wait about 5 to 10 minutes before taking a continuous measurement.

How the results are displayed after the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor completes a measurement ?

When the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor completed a measurement of your blood pressure, it will first display the readings of your systolic and diastolic blood pressure as well as pulse on the LCD screen.


And then the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor starts simultaneously the analysis of your measurement data using the heart specktrum technology. As soon as the analysis is completed, the numbers of the heart spectrum indexes I1, I2 and I3 will be displayed on the LCD screen.


Afterward the displays of the readings of your systolic/diastolic/pulse and the numbers of your heart spectrum index I1/I2/I3 will be recurring one after the other on the LCD Screen in an interval of around 2 seconds.

How many measurement data can I stored in the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor? How can I know if the memory capacity is used up?

The memory capacity of the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor is 30 sets of measurement data. However, there is no indication of how many measurement data has been stored in the memory.


After 30 measurement data have been stored in the memory, each time a new measurement is completed, the oldest stored measurement data is automatically deleted and the regained memory is used to save the new measurement data.


The OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor will always keep your lastest 30 measurement data in the memory.

How can I see my stored measurement data on the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor?

Turn on your OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor. Then press on the left adjustment button on the left below the LCD screen. Your latest measurement data will be displayed on the LCD screen with two recurring displays in a interval of around 2 seconds. The first display are the readings of systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and pulse, and the second display are the readings of OSTAR heart spectrum indexes I1, I2 and I3. On top of the display are the date and time of the measurement.


Press on the left adjustment button again, you will see the measurement data previous of the currently displayed and so on. There are 30 measurement data in total saved in the memory.


If you want to see the measurement data after the currently displayed, please press on the right adjustment button on the right below the LCD screen. Press on the right adjustment button again, you will see the measurement data after of the currently displayed and so on.


To exit the measurement data display, please press the setting button on the middle below the LCD Screen.

How can I interrupt the display of stored measurement data and start a new measurement on the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor?

Just press the setting button on the middle underneath the LCD screen.


As soon as the setting button is pressed, the display of the measurement data will be interrupted and ended immediately. After that, the actual date any time with a figue "0" will be displayed on the LCD screen. Your OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor is ready for making new measurement.

How often should I clean the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor?

The OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor normally do not require a regular cleaning. If you want, you can wipe the surface of the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor with a soft, dry cloth.


If necessary, you can also dampen the soft cloth with warm water or a neutral detergent and rub it gently to remove stains from the surface of the device.


Please note that:


  • Do not use abrasive alcohol-based cleaners to clean the device.


  • Do not use abrasive alcohol-based cleaners, thinners, or chemicals to clean the device.


  • Never immerse the device in water.

How should I clean the cuff? Can I wash the cuff?

The cuff is a consumable item. In normal use, it does not require any maintenance or cleaning. It is highly recommended that you do not operate the cuff with wet or dirty hands.


You can not wash the cuff. You should not attempt to use water or any cleaners to clean the cuff.


Please note that:.


  • You should not immerse the cuff in water or any cleaners under any circumstances.


  • Do not press on the cuff to deflate it. This can damage the compressor and the sensor.

How can I turn off the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor?

Press on the "ON/OFF" button on the top right side of the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor. The OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor will be turned off immediately.

Should I separate the cuff from the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor after turn it off?

It is not necessary to separate the cuff and the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor when your turn it off or put it in the carry bag for storage.


Actually it is recommended not to frequently separate the cuff and the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor. Frequently disconnect and connect the hose connector of the cuff and the socket of the OSTAR heart spectrum blood pressure monitor might increase the risk of breaking the connector or damage the tightness of the socket.
